How to copy an Instagram reel link and download it with audio

Instagram stories — what works and what does not

Understand story link limitations before you paste a URL into Power Downloader.

Last updated: July 8, 2026

Stories are different from reels

Instagram Stories are temporary, audience-limited posts that disappear after 24 hours (unless saved to highlights). They use a different URL structure (instagram.com/stories/username/…) and stricter access rules than public reels or feed posts. Power Downloader can analyze some story links, but most story URLs fail — and that is usually expected, not a bug.

When a story download may work

  • The story is from a public account you can view without logging in.
  • The story has not expired (still within the 24-hour window).
  • The link opens the story directly in a browser incognito window without a login wall.
  • The poster has not restricted embeds or audience in a way that blocks server access.

Even when these conditions are met, Instagram may change story delivery at any time. Success rates for stories are lower than for public reels.

When a story will fail

  • Private accounts — you must follow the account and be approved; our servers do not use your personal login.
  • Close Friends — green-ring stories are never accessible to third-party tools.
  • Expired stories — after 24 hours the URL returns errors.
  • Highlights — highlight links behave differently; some work like posts, others fail.
  • Login wall — if Instagram asks you to sign in when opening the link privately, analyze will return "private or restricted."

Why you see many story errors in logs

Users often paste story links from accounts they follow in the app. The story looks available on their phone but is not public on the open web. Our service correctly rejects those links rather than bypassing Instagram's access controls. For reliable downloads, use public reel or post links instead.

How to copy a story link

In the Instagram app, open the story, tap the three-dot menu or Share, and choose Copy link if available. Not all story viewers expose a copy-link option. Paste the URL at Power Downloader and tap Analyze. If you receive an error, test the same URL in a private browser window without logging in.
