Disappearing posts are different from short-form videos
Disappearing posts are audience-limited content that vanishes after 24 hours (unless saved to highlights). They use different access rules than public short-form videos or feed posts. Copy the link with Share → Copy link only when the post is still live. Social Saver can analyze some temporary post links, but most disappearing post URLs fail — and that is usually expected, not a bug.
When a disappearing post download may work
- The post is from a public account you can view without logging in.
- The post has not expired (still within the 24-hour window).
- The link opens the post directly in a browser incognito window without a login wall.
- The poster has not restricted embeds or audience in a way that blocks server access.
Even when these conditions are met, the platform may change temporary post delivery at any time. Success rates for disappearing posts are lower than for public short-form videos.
When a disappearing post will fail
- Private accounts — you must follow the account and be approved; our servers do not use your personal login.
- Close Friends — green-ring disappearing posts are never accessible to third-party tools.
- Expired disappearing posts — after 24 hours the link stops working.
- Highlights — saved collections behave differently; some work like posts, others fail.
- Login wall — if the platform asks you to sign in when opening the link privately, analyze will return "private or restricted."
Why you see many disappearing post errors in logs
Users often paste temporary post links from accounts they follow in the app. The post looks available on their phone but is not public on the open web. Our service correctly rejects those links rather than bypassing platform access controls. For reliable downloads, use public short-form video or post links instead.
How to copy a disappearing post link
Open the disappearing post, tap the menu or Share, and choose Copy linkif available. Not all viewers expose that option. Paste the URL at Social Saver and tap Analyze. If you receive an error, test the same URL in a private browser window without logging in.
